Sports are a large part of both cultures. While Americans glorify football and baseball, Europeans prefer sports like soccer and tennis. Sports like basketball and golf are universally popular.
Something unique to America is our intense pride and adoration for colleges or universities. You can find someone with a bumper sticker or t-shirt expressing their love for their school decades after they graduate. I personally think this can be credited to the competitive drive produced by college sports. While young talented athletes in America generally move on to play sports for their college, European athletes join competitive sports clubs, similar to a minor league team.
Cheerleading is quite popular in America for men and women of all ages and has become a pop culture icon in our country. Though it has slowly spread outside of U.S. borders, cheerleading is not nearly as common or practiced as often in Europe, in a competitive sense or at sporting events.
