Though CEOs are paid to have answer, their greatest contribution to their organizations maybe asking the right questions- a skill that begins with passionate curiosity.
They recognize that they can't have the answer to everything - that's why they hire specialist to handle different parts of the organization - but they can push their company in the right direction and marshal the collective energy of their employees by asking the right questions. That, after all, is where the new opportunities are.
Tim Brown, the CEO of Ideo, a major design consulting firm, said: As leader probably the most important role we can play asking the right questions.
"When I go back and look at the great leader - Roosevelt, Churchill - one thing that occurs to me is that they somehow had the ability to frame the question in a way that nobody else would have thought about."
Top executives who are passionately curious can also spot like - minded people from a mile away. They may even hire them on the spot-another sign of how rare this quality is.
