Main structures.
The skeletal system gives the body its basic framework, provides structure and movement.
The 206 bones in the body also produce blood cells, store important minerals and release hormones necessary to life.
Main Functions.
Provide a framework which supports the body.
Protect some of the major organs from mechanical injury.
Contains and protects the red bone marrow , Hematopoiesis tissues, some white blood cells.
Provides a storage site of inorganic salts, such as calcium which is essential for blood clotting and proper
functioning of the muscles and nerves.
Bones also provide a system of levers on which muscles act to produce motion.
