Majority of the data available on the phytochemical composition of Carissa carandas (karonda) have been reported on flavonoids and phe- nolic acids, however there is no report available on the anthocyanin composition of this fruit. Carissa carandas belongs to Apocynaceae family and is a shrub occurs grown in Indian subcontinent. Fruits of karonda are reported to be antiscorbutic, astringent, and acts as cure for biliousness i.e. bad digestion, constipation and stomach pain. Botanically the fruits of Carissa carandas are berry in nature. The fruit shape is ellipsoid with length vary from 2.5 to 4 cm and width vary from 1.5 to 2.25 cm, deep brown to purple colour with soft texture. Fruits have 3–6 number of flat seeds in it (Fig. 1).
