Research approach
This research applies the database collected through the World Class Logistics
research completed at Michigan State University[3]. Of 3,693 respondents to a
previously issued base-line survey, 111 firms from North America, Europe and
the Pacific Basin occupying various channel positions, were selected by a panel
of logistics experts (practitioners, academics and consultants) as representing
world class logistics organizations. Following a request for participation, each
firm was asked to complete a detailed questionnaire that investigated a number
of firm capabilities, including information technology. As a condition for
participation, the firms also allowed an on-site interview that covered
unstructured issues including information technology.
