I agree with you on Per. We may not like what he is doing, and I had hoped he would be doing something secretly helpful, but I’m o.k. having him behave that way in the series. The novel is noteworthy for a complete absence of characters opposed to homosexuality. Actually there aren’t any antagonists in the novel at all. Everyone who knows about Phun and Noh like the idea, unless they are interested in dating one of them. That’s wonderful, but a little bit of a fantasy. I really am starting to hope that Win’s story ends with Mark as his boyfriend and Per accepting both of them. It doesn’t need to follow the novel. I don’t really need to have a story where the one homophobic character has secret homosexual desires. But a story about someone changing his mind would be just fine. That’s why I’m not willing to write off Per even though he is being mean. There are far meaner people in the world, and if no one ever changed their minds, what kind of world would we expect to have in the future? Per is an antagonist, but not a villain, and I’m not going to write the guy off one week into his crank phase.
@ Nolan, I agree with you. if per does end up being a homophobe having a homophobic character does add to to the realism. and certainly I can handle Per’s level of hate compared to the homophobia depicted in other movies (especially asian movies, where every gay character is either physically, emotionally or sexually abused in 90% of the movies). But that being said I WILL NOT give up on perXwin!!! my perXwin ship is not gonna sink like the titanic!!! if Per is homophobic he just needs to get over that little phobia and be with win for the sake of my happiness!!!
