The limitations of this study included the small sample size, which limited
the ability to detect significant meaningful differences when controlling
for confounding and examining effect moderation. Further, a non-Pilatesbased
exercise group was not included, so that it is unknown if similar
improvements would be found in an exercise group, as only a non-exercise
control group was used. Similar improvements in psychological well-being
may have been found in both Pilates-based and non-Pilates-based exercise
groups. Also, the Body Control Pilates method may not be similar to the
Pilates-based methods taught in other published research studies. Finally,
the non-representative nature of the study sample limits the generalizability
of the study results.
