The oval symbol is used to designate both the start and stop processes. The start symbol is the first
symbol that should be present on the flow chart. The start symbol generally has only a single output
connector. The stop or end symbol is normally the last symbol present on the flow chart. Even if the
process has several different possible paths, there should still only be one stop or end symbol. All of the
processes should terminate in this one symbol. The start oval is illustrated in Figure 4.1. The stop oval
is identical except for labeling.
