liver and pancreas. Our results suggest that the beneficial
effect of saponins is at least in part, mediated by its antioxidant,
antidyslipidemic and hypoglycemic activities and seems to justify the
traditional use of dietary S. anguivi fruit saponin in folk medicine. Further
studies are nowin progress to identify the type and structure of saponins
from S. anguivi fruit in order to elucidate the exact mechanism by which
saponin elicits its modulatory effect.
