When I was a kid and took art classes in school I always chose Batik. It's one of my favorite art techniques. Batik making is actually strong traditional craft. By applying wax to the cloth one saves the color die that is underneath the wax. When it is dyed, this area will have no color. Then they re-wax and re-dye the cloth, several times over, until they have completed the cloth. This can be done by stamp or machine, but the product is not as authentic.
