Effect of culture time on oil production
The effects of culture time in the second stage were evaluated at
0e10 psu salt concentrations with the four microalgae (Fig. 4a and
b). As shown in Fig. 4a, biomass productions of four microalgae
stopped with low-salt stress conditions as indicated by arrow.
These results are consistent with the findings of following studies.
Hellebust [24] reported that microalgae used in this study did not
grow at low salinities, and also showed no phosphate uptake in the
absence of NaCl. Eggert et al. [25] also reported that marine
microalgae did not tolerate low salinity and high salinity, thus, led
