By the end of the 1920s the drum set had not changed dramatically, with the exception of the additional of the low-boy and brushes. Recording techniques were improving, allowing the drummer to bring the battery of instruments into the recording or the radio studio rather than compromising the performance by playing drum parts on instruments such as the woodblock. This was and common practice of the early 1920s and makes the study of drum set development more difficult, since early recordings often do not represent the actual performance practice of the period.
