Regulation of inflammation generally is reduced with
ageing(12), and accelerated inflammation is implicated in
neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease(13).
Berry fruits contain polyphenol compounds, which have
anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties(14). Polyphenols
also induce neuroprotective effects and influence neuronal
signalling involved in memory function(14 – 16), and specific
constituents of grape juice have exhibited neuroprotective
effects(17).
