(1) Nong Ya Plong coal mine (13◦9
0 N, 99◦400 E) is located
in Phetchaburi Province, 100 km south-west of
Bangkok at the northern end of the peninsular region.
Fossil mammals have been discovered in a black claystone
bed situated under a 30-m lignite bed. This fauna
suggests a Late Oligocene age, between 26 and 24 Ma
(Marivaux et al., 2004, 2006). The pollen sample discussed
here comes from the mammals layer
