Table.2 shows the change in areal extent of different
landuse landcover classes of different years. In all the periods,
there is an increase in area under builtup and mixed vegetation
and decrease in area for other landuse classes.
Built up land has increased 1.21sq. km in 1967 to
1999 , and 5.35sq. km in 1999-2005. Mixed vegetation has
increased from 49.19 sq.km in 1967-1999 to 57.99 sq.kmin
1999-2005.. The main causes of the reduction in agricultural
area because of increase in demand of land for habitational
purposes due to increase in population and developmental
activities making the land unsuitable for farming. During
these years forest area has also decreasd. Water body in the
area is also decreases considerably. This may be due to solid
waste deposition as well as sand mining from rivers.
