A Job of Baby Dolphins. As soon as baby dolphins are born, they have a job to do. They must swim to the top of the water for their first breath of air. Baby dolphins need to do this very fast. They must breathe air right away like you and me. Sometimes young dolphins cannot do this. They are not strong enough, or start to swim down instead of up. The older dolphins must help. They have to swim under the troubled baby and bump it to the top of the water. The new baby is then able to catch its first breath of air.
