Kakadu is one of a suite of national parks in the “Top End” of the Northern Territory of Australia. The Park is located within the Alligator Rivers Region, extends from the coast in the north to the southern hills and basins 150km to the south, and covers an area of nearly two million hectares (20,000 km2).
Kakadu encompasses a living Aboriginal culture, extraordinary natural landscapes, and a rich variety of plants and animals, as well as rock art and archaeological sites, values were internationally recognized when the Park was first placed on the World Heritage List in 1981 for its natural and cultural values and later extended.
