Students in Environment and Development course completed a community service project — Eco Toilet. During a two-month-long period, students in this course had put the knowledge they learned in class to real practice. The outcome of the project really benefits the community.
A lecturer assigned students on temple’s toilet development based on two aspects. First, was to demonstrate a departure from traditional use of chemical products to clean toilets, by producing herbal products from waste vegetables for toilet cleaning and hand washing. Secondly, decorate toilets by reusing plastic bottles for growing small ornamental plants.
The project produced amazing results as seen in the picture above. The toilet bowl, floor and handiwashing basin sparkled white after cleaning with the herbal product. The temple toilet became more inviting after the students accomplished the project. Beside the cleaning effect, the herbal products also are capable of killing most bacteria in the home.
Green cleaners have enormous environmental merits including their less toxic nature both to user and the environment and that they are readily biodegradable. The low production cost of green cleaners also makes them far affordable to even the low income homes as opposed to chemical products, thereby ensuring healthy living environment for more people. Production of these herbal products also assisted in waste management by reusing waste portions of vegetables for the green cleaners and plastic bottles for decoration. Green cleaners can also meet a wide range of domestic cleaning requirements.
