Creating constitutes visual artist Elizabeth O’Connor-Cowley’s existence. Her work is bold, simplistic representations of selected subjects inspired by her immediate surroundings. Great importance is placed on the manipulation of universal elements – colour, form + line and the exploration of the spirit of space. Elizabeth enjoys working in a variety of creative disciplines whether it be painting (her instinctive passion), graphic design or textiles.
“Blurring the line between art and product, article is a means of expressing myself across a variety of mediums in a form that can be shared. My objective is to create inimitable utility articles (usable art) in limited editions from natural renewable resources.”
Textile article:® is a collection of tactile lifestyle products created primarily from vegetable fibres. Each limited edition textile article is hand silk-screened using water-based paint. More often than not, each article bears slight variations from one another, thus making each piece unique. The subject is the fabric, the paint, its physical properties and the exploration of energetic, simplistic mark making.
Paper article:® is an assemblage of paper-based products derived from either recycled paper or plantation timber which complement the entire article collection whilst providing another medium in which to convey an obsession to create.
