The descriptive statistics on the expenditure share, price and total expenditure
of coffee imported in Japan market from 2005 to 2009 reported in Table 9 shows that
while Brazil has the highest mean expenditure share (42.4%); it also has the lowest
average price (1,882.24 US$/ton). Although Ethiopia has a minimum average
expenditure share (6.8%), its average price (2226.86 US$/ton) is higher than that of
Brazil and Colombia (2,101.77 US$/ton) whose average expenditure share (32.9%) is
the second highest. During the reported period, Ethiopian coffee showed both the
minimum and maximum price of all the countries in the Japanese market and had a
maximum variability.
