National Legislative Assembly
The National Assembly or the Parliament of Thailand is the legislative branch of the government of Thailand. The National Assembly of Thailand is a bicameral body, consisting of two chambers: the Senate of Thailand (upper house), and the House of Representatives of Thailand (lower house). The Assembly is composed of 650 members: 500 Representatives (MPs) and 150 Senators. Sovereign power emanates from the Thai people and the King who is Head of State exercises such power through the National Legislative Assembly, the Council of Ministers and the Courts in conformity with the provisions of this Constitution. It can in fact be construed that the legislative institution of the Kingdom of Thailand during the transitional period functions in a form of unicameral system of parliamentary democracy under the name “National Legislative Assembly” or it is named in Thai “Sapha Nitibunyat Haeg Chat” where it concurrently serves as the House of Representatives, the Senate and the Parliament. The King shall enact laws by and with the advice and consent of the National Legislative Assembly.
