There is growing evidence that good design produces economic and social benefit in the areas of healthcare, educational
environments, housing, civic pride and cultural activity, business and crime prevention. A MORI commissioned poll found that investment in good design generates economic and social value. Across all the various sectors ‘the message is the same — when we invest in the built environment, we must consider the impact of design throughout the lifetime of the buildings, on the places in which they are located and on all stakeholders involved’. The findings of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment study suggest that, in addition to the design versus location debate, broader issues should be the focus of attention, with consideration of the creation of economic and social value and stakeholders.
