Patient-centred interventions
People have the right to choose how they wish to behave and it is important to understand other people’s perspectives. Health promotion is about giving people appropriate information to enable them to make informed choices and providing them with the tools to improve their health. It is widely accepted that better self-management of one’s health and illnesses is supported by a patient-centred approach to care, and a therapeutic relationship between the patient and healthcare professional. By enabling individuals to identify their own needs, plans and evaluation processes, they can be empowered to improve their health (Shircore 2009).
