is avaluabletoolforthedevelopmentofnewvarietiesby
improving thetoleranceoforganismstobioticandabiotic
stresses. Indeed,inductionandisolationofmutantshasbeen
widely usedasakeytechniqueforbothstrainimprovementand
the analysisofcomplexpathways(Fischer, 1998). Forexample,a
Haematococcus mutant wasobtainedbytreatmentwithUV,ethyl
methane sulfonate(EMS),and1-methyl-3-nitro-1-nitrosoguani-
dine (NTG)(Park etal.,2006).
