Pronunciation is one of major problems claimed to be impeding or contributing to the lack of speaking competence of
Thai learners. This is because English has a distinct set of sounds, while Thai does not. To successfully learn another
language, particularly to achieve the target-like pronunciation and minimize foreign accents that can result from a
negative L1 transfer, learners need to know what sounds are available in the target language but not in their own mother
tongue, and vice versa.
