Grammatical meaning here refers to the meaning given by grammatical inflections, such as plural of nouns, tense and voice of verbs. They indicate something more than the word itself. In English which is a synthetic language, these grammatical meanings are usually realized by the explicit change of word forms. While in Chinese, an analytic language, whose words lack grammatical inflection, the grammatical meaning or relation is usually realized through word order and function words or sometimes implied in the words used.
