In terms of the type of accommodation chosen, nearly 6 million of
the international tourists who visited Andalusia as their principle
destination in the year 2000 (84.9%) stayed in regulated tourist accommodation
establishments3 (hotels, holiday apartments, campgrounds or
rural tourism establishments), with hotels being the preferred type of accommodation
within this group (88%). The corresponding percentages
for the year 2011 were nearly the same, with 86.4% of tourists staying
in regulated establishments and, of those, 88% staying in hotels.4 As
regards domestic tourists, among those who visited Andalusia in the
year 2011, 70.3% stayed in a hotel. Broken down, only 60.6% of tourists
from Andalusia chose hotel accommodation compared to 77.6% of
Spanish tourists from out of Andalusia5 (CTCD, 2012).
