From the late 1980s, budget considerations together
with an over-supply of nursing graduates
forced the MoHME and government to revise policies
regarding the admission of nursing students.
A comprehensive evaluation of the viability of nursing
programs resulted in the closure of a number of
smaller nursing schools. Simultaneously, a number
of other nursing schools were urged to close their
part-time programs and decrease the number of
students admitted to full-time programs. These
measures resulted in a considerable decrease in
the total number of nursing student admissions
over last decade.
