The Minister of Labor is engaged in a dialogue with neighboring countries on the feasibility of importing foreign workers through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) scheme, to combat human trafficking in the CLMV region and the ASEAN Community.
The Minister of Labor, Gen Sirichai Distakul this month held talks with officials from Vietnam, Myanmar, and Cambodia, on the establishment of a MOU, covering the movement of migrant workers to Thailand from CLMV countries, as a means to eliminate human trafficking in the labor market.
He has revealed the outcome of his talks with the Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand, H.E. Nguyen Tat Thanh, saying that Vietnam is satisfied with Thailand’s care of Vietnamese migrant workers, adding that an MOU on bringing Vietnamese workers into Thailand is likely to be completed in the first quarter of 2016.
The Minister also disclosed his talks with the Ambassador of Cambodia, H.E. Eat Sophea and the Ambassador of Myanmar H.E. U Win Maung, saying that they had exchanged ideas on topics including the establishment of a cooperative approach to eliminating human trafficking activities in labor, as well as steps to utilize prior agreements regarding labor importation between the countries.
