pathophysiology
Chronic glomerulonephritis is characterized by proteinuria, usually caused by repeated episodes of glomerular injury that results in renal destruction. The kidneys are reduced to as little as one-fifty their normal size, consisting largely of fibrous tissue. The glomeruli and their tubules become scarred, and the branches of the renal artery are thickened. The rasult is severe glomerular damage-that can progress to ESRD.
