The experiment was performed in a greenhouse at Campinas (São
Paulo State, Brazil) in plastic pots (5 dm−3) sown with three castor oil
plant seeds (R. communis L.). The experiment consisted of a complete
randomized design with two organic matter sources and four rates of
application. Treatmentswere replicated three times. The organicmatter
sourceswere peat and filter cake, and theywere applied at rates of 0, 20,
40 and 80Mg ha−1 (organic carbon basis), corresponding to the following
amounts: 0.0, 7.48, 14.96 and 22.44 g of filter cake per pot, respectively,
and 0.0, 12.1, 24.2, and 36.3 g of peat per pot, respectively.
The chemical compositions of the peat and filter cake were analyzed
by the extraction method (1:1.5) previously described by Sonneveld
et al. (1974), and the chemical composition results are shown in Table 1.
