Given the volume of goods flowing through these ports, member economies need to encourage efficient information exchange to promote effective supply-chains operations. At the ‘Shanghai Workshop — Supply Chain Benefits of Electronic Information Exchange between Seaports in Selected APEC Economies’ in 2013, the participants engaged in review as follows: (1) identifying and analyzing the types of ports in each of the representative economies; (2) categorizing the capabilities and deficiencies hindering the efficient movement of goods between seaports; (3) evaluating the current status of systems for the electronic exchange of information; and (4) developing a draft framework to improve the transfer of electronic transfer without impacting on existing and future systems.60 Relevant findings from this workshop report are detailed in the analysis below.
