Definition: Clean finish is to turn under 1/8" to 1/4" of the raw edge of fabric and then stitch close to the folded edge. A tightly woven fabric that is not prone to a lot of fraying would only need 1/8" turned under. A loosely woven fabric that frays easily would need 1/4" turned under.
