In reading Jane Flanders' poem, I have gathered that Flanders is highly talented with using imagery. "Cloud Painter" is describing the life and art of John Constable; therefore, Flanders' diction and syntax revolve around distinct images and descriptions. This can relate to any artist's preferences and work. Flanders notes that "cloud forms are technically correct-mares' tails, sheep-in-the-meadow, thunderheads (16-17). What one person may see will be different from another. This is a crucial use of imagery, for it helps readers visualize their own perceptions in addition to using their imagination.
