The focus of the study was to obtain some reliable data on the
extraction of lycopene from tomato processing by-products and
to find the closest mathematical model that best fits to the lycopene
extraction data set. Tomato processing waste devoid of seeds
was used as raw material. The seed portion was avoided to prevent
fatty acid contamination during the process of extraction. Several
experiments were conducted as a function of two independent
variables namely, temperature and solvent composition, in order
to obtain the best extraction yields of lycopene.
