The aims of our study included introducing students tothe diverse world of engineering including exploring itsdifferent fields and ways in which engineers work towardsimproving society. Students’ appreciation and applicationof the processes of engineering design underpinned eachof the problem activities implemented during the study. Itwas important that students be encouraged to apply theirown ideas and approaches to designing and creating theirmodels, rather than a “conventional” approach that assumes students acquire and apply information in the exactform we desire and convey to them (Zawojewski et al.2008).
