้hella jongerius‘s ‘sphere table’ for vitra – presented at imm cologne 2013 – is a site-specific design tailored to accommodate
a sense of privacy while working in busy public spaces. the solid wooden table features a large half-sphere of opalescent acrylic glass
(in either a milky yellow or blue) that can be attached to either the top left or right corner of the worktop, allowing for a diverse scope
of adjustment for the user.jongerius aimed to effectively create a ‘shield’ from the frenetic hustle and bustle of shared areas,
offering less distraction and more seclusion. the concept references a cocoon-like element, and was conceived while jongerius was working
on the redesign of the north delegates lounge of the united nations headquarters in new york.
