Termination Criteria
The reasons for stopping a GXT vary with the type of population being tested and the purpose of the test. Table 15.4, from the ACSM's Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, is appropriate for nondiagnostic GXTs in apparently healthy adults (2).
> Typical measurements obtained during a GXT include heart rate. bloodpressure. ECG. and rating of perceived exertion.
> Specific signs (e.g., fall in systolic pressure with an increase in work rate) and symptoms (e.g., dizziness) are used to stop GXTs.
