H
yponatremia is a common
clinical problem encountered
in hospitalized patients. This
electrolyte abnormality is common
in elderly individuals and residents
of nursing homes and assisted living
facilities. Because of the potential
complications of the disorder, the
underlying cause of hyponatremia
should be identified. Medications
are often the cause of hyponatremia
in noncritically ill patients.1-3 One
case report of tolterodine-induced
hyponatremia has been previously
published.4
We present the case of a
patient who developed hyponatremia
during therapy with tolterodine.
