Community-supported agriculture (CSA) is a form of direct marketing of
produce between local farmers and consumers. Members1 of a CSA
enterprise usually pay in advance for a season’s worth of fresh, typically
organic, vegetables and fruit. The money contributed by members is not
only for the food but supports the whole farm. In this way, CSA strongly
links farmers and consumers, particularly as members often receive farm
newsletters, participate in social events, or volunteer on the farm
