On the way there, we heard on the radio that there were still two young lads in a flat on the second floor.
Well, that made me get over my fear quickly.
Unfortunately, a lot of children are afraid when they see us firefighters in all our gear.
They don’t understand that we’re there to help them, and they run away or hide.
Fortunately, in this case the kids didn’t do that.
We went straight up to the second floor, grabbed them, and got them outside to safety.
The look on their mum’s face was priceless. Amazingly, everyone in the building got out safely.
At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about for me — saving lives.
