Liberalizing the energy market, which comprised creating a
legal infrastructure for geothermal resource use and licensing,
subsidized tariffs for power generation via renewable resources,
and government purchasing guarantees, created a geothermal energy
sector in Turkey that is globally relevant. However, this rapid
development also has certain risks; the most significant is overestimating
the resource potential and where more than one operator
shares the same reservoir. These risks might jeopardize the
resource sustainability if they are not controlled and mitigated. The
USA has also encountered similar problems.
