Effects of light intensities on photocatalytically-disinfecting activity
of bacteria by TiO2 under UVA light followed the pattern
similar to the effects of nano-TiO2 contents (Table 3). Gþ bacteriumM. caseolyticus was much susceptable to TiO2 treatment than G
bacterium P. fluorescens in the suspension system. Increased light
intensity resulted in increased disinfection by TiO2. For example, at
light intensity of 300 mW/cm2 (Table 3), the C/C0 ratio was about
103 for P. fluorescens after 150 min treatment, while it was 105 by
120 min treatment for M. caseolyticus. When the light intensity
increased to 400 mW/cm2 (Table 3), the C/C0 of both bacteria
showed a large difference in kills but similar trends with those
shown under 300 mW/cm2 light irradiation. The value of C/C0 was
about 104 for P. fluorescens after 150 min treatment, compared
with more than 104 for M. caseolyticus after 90 min treatment.
When the light intensity was 500 mW/cm2 (Table 3), the C/C0 ratio
was 105 for P. fluorescens after 150 min treatment; however, it
quickly decreased to 106 in 90 min for M. caseolyticus
