Across the entire sample, the median distance ridden per week was 54 km, varying from 30
km/week in Israel and 40 km/week in Norway and Switzerland to 150 km/week in Greece. Al4
most half of the sample rode nearly daily. The lowest rate of daily riding was observed in Israel
(5.5%) and the highest rate in the Netherlands (64.6%).
Table 2 shows that city/hybrid bicycles were the most common type of bicycle ridden (43.5%),
followed by mountain (19.8%) and road bikes (15.1%). However, 12.6% of respondents did not
specify the type of bicycle that they most commonly rode. Road bikes were relatively more
common in Australia (46.1%) and Greece (45.7%), while city/hybrid bikes were more relatively
more common in the Netherlands (60.7%) and Germany (58.1%). Electric bikes were much
more common in the Netherlands (15.3%), where the average age of the riders was highest,
than elsewhere.
