In industrial applications, the expected performance of electrocoagulation systems is limited by national water pollution regulations. In this study, the effluent COD decreased below 250 mg/L within 60 min at 20 mA/cm2 (CCOD@60 min ¼ 157 mg/L), 40 min at 30 mA/cm2 (CCOD@40 min ¼ 178 mg/L) and 30 min at 50 mA/cm2 (CCOD@30 min ¼ 168 mg/L). Consequently, according to the regulation, no further EC treatment after these points is necessary. As a result,thecostsofelectricalenergyconsumptionwillbereducedto 6.91 105 kWh/mg for 60 min EC (at 20 mA/cm2), 6.63 105 kWh/mg for 40 min EC (at 30 mA/cm2) and 9.39 105 kWh/mg for 30 min EC (at 50 mA/cm2).
