Further Research
Research is needed to investigate the impact of private effort and ability feedback on students’
behaviour, self-perspectives and academic achievement. In addition, further investigation is needed
into the specific conditions under which primary teachers use praise, for what extrinsic or intrinsic
purposes, and the contexts where primary students appreciate being praised. Furthermore, the focus of
this study was on academic feedback, not social feedback, therefore further investigation of the use of
feedback in all classroom contexts using a larger research sample is recommended. This small-scale
study was conducted in one school and hence the results have limited applicability to other contexts.
