4. Results and discussion
4.1. Effect of total pressure on respiration
Fig. 6 shows the variation in the rate of respiration as a function
of ambient total pressure under high-absolute-humidity and
low-absolute-humidity conditions. The values plotted in Fig. 6
were normalized by the rate of CO2 release obtained under atmosphere
pressure. It was found that the rate of respiration decreased
slightly with increasing total pressure up to a value near 0.2 MPa
under the low-absolute-humidity condition. The rate of respiration
