We report a method that uses a sensitive and broad-spectrum amplification system (1), followed by a single hybridization with a reverse line blot detection method for complete HPV genotype discrimination (see Fig. Fig.1).1). This method, like other PCR-based assays, avoids false negatives below the limit of detection of nonamplified methods and can readily detect a broad spectrum of HPV genotypes. Furthermore, HPV type-specific disease associations can be precisely defined, since genotypes are individually discriminated.
