The issues outlined in this paper correspond to the initial phase of efforts dedicated to design of electric of hybrid vehicles. The synchronous brushless motor with permanent magnets is suggested as a propulsion unit for such vehicles. The motor demonstrates sinusoidal distribution of the back EMF, which enables to operate the motor within a wider range of the rotation speed. However, the improvement of the motor flexibility is achieved upon the expenses of sophisticated control algorithms. Different schemes of testing and research work are performed to develop the best solution of the hybrid drive.
