I’m pleased to share highlights of Western Digital’s fiscal second quarter results, following our earnings report today. We continue to execute well as we manage our business within an increasingly challenging global economic environment.

We reported revenue of $3.3 billion, gross margin of 28.5 percent, and net income of $374 million, or $1.60 per share. The HDD TAM in the December quarter came in somewhat below our expectations, attributed to weakness in the gaming sector and enterprise volumes that were lighter than expected. We anticipate continued weak demand in the fiscal third quarter.

While demand for hard disk drives in the client space has trended down in recent quarters, we continue to diversify our revenue base into higher growth areas aligned with cloud storage and the third platform of computing. This includes:

• Building on our track record of innovation in the capacity enterprise space. We shipped a record 1.5 million helium drives in the second quarter, including initial shipments of our 10TB drive—our third generation helium product.
• Continuing to grow our enterprise SSD revenue. Strong product acceptance by our customers and focused execution by our team allowed us to grow enterprise SSD revenue to a record $270 million in the quarter.
• Ongoing expansion of our My Cloud business. We continue to enhance these products with powerful new capabilities and user experiences.
• Gaining traction in the Active Archive systems business. We had several notable wins in tier two cloud infrastructure, backup and archive applications, and other vertical markets during the quarter.

We continue to integrate our HGST and WD operations with a number of important milestones already achieved. We reaffirmed today that we expect to realize $400 million dollars of operating expense reductions and that we expect to realize an additional $250 million dollars of cost savings related to cost of goods sold by the end of 2017. The integration actions and related cost savings will allow us to operate more efficiently and profitably for both the near and long term.

As we move into the second half of our fiscal year, we have a great deal to accomplish in an environment of continued market uncertainty. As a result, it is important that we continue to make progress on our strategic efforts to diversify and strengthen the company for the long term. This includes the integration of our former HGST and WD subsidiaries, the acquisition of SanDisk and our ongoing engagement with Unisplendour Corporation. We look forward to discussing the progress that has been made in these areas during the Town Hall meeting on February 3.
